Our Approach

Our goal is for students to learn with a community of practicing artists who encourage self-expression, foster empathy, and promote collaboration and creative problem-solving.

Our artist-as-teachers provide students the space for creative exploration, playful learning, and a nurturing environment that supports students in their social and emotional development. Students choose from four different workshops, ranging from comics to karaoke, each day of the week. Our circle times provide the opportunity for children to share their thoughts and life experiences, rooting the out of school experience within community dynamics.

To celebrate our students’ work and to give them the space to make their voices heard, we hold four performance showcases and galleries throughout the school year, and one performance/gallery day every week of our summer and vacation programs. These events allow our students to build their confidence in sharing their creativity with their families and the JP community.

All of our programs are designed to provide a balance of in and out of class time, giving students plenty of time for structured play.

Above all, KidsArts is a space for children to be themselves.

Storyteller, performer, doodler, wand-wielder, comicbook-maker, nature-lover, tap-dancer, finger-drummer— we can’t wait to welcome you!

We believe that . . .

  • Art is a tool for self-expression, cultural exchange, and healing

  • Art-making is about the process, less about the final result

  • Art has the power to transform individuals and communities

  • Everyone learns and makes in their unique way
