Welcome to You Write It, I Sing It!

Where each week you send me your song lyrics to turn into a full-fledged song!

Week 6 Theme: KidsArts TV Show Theme Song!

Hi Everyone! I have a BIG announcement: KidsArts teachers are going to be starting a TV show for kids, and we want YOU to write the theme song!

What’s the show going to be about you ask? Here are some possibilities:

  • Art

  • Music

  • Storytelling

  • Creativity

  • Kids’ Ideas

  • Silly Jokes

  • Playing Games

  • And SO much more

The show will have a lot of variety so anything about creativity, imagination, or kids will be great! Since this is a theme song it should be a little shorter than our normal songs, just 2 verses and a chorus maximum and maybe even only a chorus! I’m excited to see what you come up with.

Also, check out ‘The Amazon,’ by Rishi, from last week!

Week 5 Theme: Planet Earth!

Did you know that this week is earth week!? This week let’s write songs about our planet - animals, plants, mountains, rivers, deserts, the ocean, the rainforest - anything that comes to your mind when you think of our wonderful planet! If you want, you can also write a song with a message about protecting our planet. I bet you already know a lot of things we can do to help make a healthy earth!

Check out the song I made last week called ‘A Clipboard is a Pokedex.’ It’s about Pokemon and the ways that Ashlee used Pokemon to unlock our creativity and build our community.

Please submit your song lyrics by Monday, 4/27! Include a drawing to help me make a music video! Email lyrics and artwork to matt@jpkidsarts.org

I’ll accept typed lyrics, pictures of handwritten lyrics (if I can read them), or videos/audio recordings of lyrics being spoken or sung! Take a look at the post from week 2 for some helpful hints if you get stuck!

Week 4 Theme: Pokemon!

This week’s theme is Pokemon! The theme was chosen by all of us at the last watch party in honor of Ashlee, who always shared her love of Pokemon with all the kids at KidsArts. As you write your song, keep in mind some of the things that were most important to Ashlee, friendship, fun, creativity, beautiful vibrant colors, and supporting and loving our community!

Feel free to include personal things if you want or dive deep into the world of Pokemon and your imagination. Follow whatever moves you. I am excited to see what everyone comes up with.

I am also VERY excited to share a video for the song Alienville by Simon and Hazel! Check it out along with two very cool drawings!

Please submit your song lyrics by Monday, 4/20!

Week 3 Theme: Outer Space! (Again)

Last week I got so many great songs about Outer Space I decided to keep the theme for next week so I can make more videos!

I’m also SO excited to share this awesome song by Rishi called How Many Countries are in Asia? (Part 1). It’s Part 1 because I couldn’t fit all 44 countries into one song!

Please submit your song lyrics by Monday, 4/13! Include a drawing to help me make a music video! Email lyrics and artwork to matt@jpkidsarts.org

I’ll accept typed lyrics, pictures of handwritten lyrics (if I can read them), or videos/audio recordings of lyrics being spoken or sung! Take a look at last week’s post for some helpful hints if you get stuck!

Week 2 Theme: Outer Space!

This week’s theme is OUTER SPACE!

Space is full of wonder, beauty, and the unknown! Planets, stars, blackholes, aliens, galaxies, asteroids, spaceships, and more! Let your mind wander through the cosmos. When you have an idea, start writing!

We got some amazing submissions last week! Many of you did an awesome job writing songs with four parts made up of four short lines. A challenge is to make the 2nd and 4th lines of each part have a rhyme at the end! Look at Violet and Sylvia’s lyrics below as a model!

Check out the music videos for Magic is SO Unfair by Violet and Sylvia and Magic: a Hogwarts Song by Simon and Hazel!

Please submit your song lyrics by Monday, 4/6! Include a drawing to help me make a music video! Email lyrics and artwork to matt@jpkidsarts.org

I’ll accept typed lyrics, pictures of handwritten lyrics (if I can read them), or videos/audio recordings of lyrics being spoken or sung!
