Mother, herbalist, aspiring doula, and artist weaving a nexus of forgotten dreams, fragmented pottery, mycelial networks, and plant wisdom. A cosmology I embody that greatly influences how I teach is “The future has an ancient heart.” I’m honored to collaborate and co-create with fellow teaching artists in building a non-linear world that nurtures a brave space for kids, and ultimately, ourselves and our community, to express their <ancient hearts> I have formal training in painting, art history, and ceramics though my work is nebulous/in constant flux. I am an interdisciplinary artist and aspiring curandera. My roots run deep in South Florida and Nicaragua’s Pacific coast. My main background is in jazz trumpet, but while in college I started branching out to other instruments, and focused on writing music. Through the process of making merchandise for bands, I have developed a strong interest in textile arts. In May 2018 I graduated from New England Conservatory with a B.A. in Contemporary Improvisation, and I have been a part of the KidsArts team since April 2019. I am passionate about helping kids explore their creativity and boosting their self esteem as they do it. My approach to teaching focuses on creating respectful spaces where we can learn to value each other as creative human beings regardless of our skills or backgrounds. I’m pretty sure practicing radical imagination is the key to the city, so to speak. You know what I mean. My name is Tim and I’ve been lucky enough to be teaching at Kids Arts since the Fall of 2019. It’s honestly felt like an eternity but I mean that in the most endearing way possible. The doors to Kids Arts are undoubtedly a portal to some alternate dimension where freedom and curiosity are encouraged to blossom/mutate organically and in good humor. If you’ve visited during the hours of operation, you know what I mean. What a blessing to learn and grow in such a vibrant and talented community of artists. In the spirit of radical imagination, my art practice has been largely amorphous and completely uncommitted to one modality. I am formally trained in painting, sound design, and video production - lately I’m playing with clay. I graduated from Barnard College in 2012 with a B.A. in English and Art History and I worked in Berlin as a teaching assistant and tutor. In 2014 I completed a Master in Philosophy at Trinity College Dublin in Children’s Literature. The focus of my studies was on the interplay between text and images, an interest that inspires my classes at KidsArts. My classes are composed of three parts: Look and Listen 2) Create and Experiment 3) Share and Celebrate. This structure provides a balance of individual and group activities, designed to give each student the attention and flexibility they need to succeed in their own art making, while also allowing for collaboration.
