Rubin Hohlbein
Teacher and Teacher Assistant
I am a musician, songwriter and composer. You can find me playing keyboards and trumpet in my band Queen Crony; playing trumpet in the Roma Band at parades around Boston; playing guitar and singing for Rock-a-Baby classes in Newton; doing solo sets of my original music and more! My main background is in jazz trumpet, but while in college I started branching out to other instruments, and focused on writing music. Through the process of making merchandise for bands, I have developed a strong interest in textile arts. I have a sewing machine at home and do work with patches, as well as making clothes from scratch. I enjoy airbrushing and other visual arts as well. In May 2018 I graduated from New England Conservatory with a B.A. in Contemporary Improvisation, and I have been a part of the KidsArts team since April 2019. I am passionate about helping kids explore their creativity and boosting their self esteem as they do it. My approach to teaching focuses on creating respectful spaces where we can learn to value each other as creative human beings regardless of our skills or backgrounds. What I love about about KidsArts is being a part of a team of artists who are also activists that are passionate about transformative justice.
